How do you fight holiday weigh gain? Start the season in amazing shape!
Usually Woohoo philosophy is all about mixing up your exercise routine so you get a fun, fresh workout every time you walk into our micro gym. We're not big fans of counting reps as you do the same exercises week after week. But for a month this fall, we decided to turn our philosophy upside down to bring you our 10,030 challenge. The objective? To get our participants in awesome shape, so they can start the nutritionally tricky holiday season super fit, with their metabolisms roaring.
The 10,030 challenge (to be completed in 30 days):
1. 2000 burpees
2. 2000 sit ups
3. 2000 squats
4. 2000 push ups
5. 2000 lunges
6. 30 miles run or walk - or combo
7. Food journal everyday - what, when, how much
Here's how Woohoo's techniques make the 10,030 challenge an achievable goal for all different fitness levels. While every participant was encouraged to complete the entire 10,030 reps, not everyone's reps looked the same. For example: “push ups” were broken down into 3 levels. The first was holding an upper push up position for time, where the seconds counted as reps. Level two was knee push ups (and no one calls those “girl” push ups when they have to do 2,000). The most challenging level 3 was a standard push up. Each of the other categories, from burpees to lunges, was also broken down into 3 levels so that every participant had a challenge appropriate to their fitness level.
Now for the fun part: results in numbers! Participants lost an average of 3 lbs and 2.5% body fat, increased push ups by 75%, increased sit ups by 25% and decreased run time by 15 sec in just 30 days! This kind of mprovement usually take 3 months of training to achieve. Not only did participants see great results, they felt them. All around our micro gym, people were talking about how they felt stronger, how push ups were easier, and how they felt a sense of accomplishment for finishing the 10,030 challenge. While there was plenty of hard work and suffering through reps, almost all our participants said they had fun!
We consider our 10,030 challenge a total success, but at Woohoo fit, we're constantly tweaking and innovating our programs. If there was one surprise, it was that our participants really struggled through the food journal portion of the challenge. Participants found it hard to stay on top of updating their food journals. So in true Woohoo style, we're tweaking our technique to work for our participants. If you check out the next month's goal: the Healthy Holiday Challenge, you'll see our new version of the food journal. We've found a way for our participants to record their nutritional success while eliminating the necessity of keeping track of everything.
Stay tuned for unique Woohoo Fit challenges and success stories!
